Three people, one drum, and a café in a railway arch.
Quarlow started in a garage with a one-kilo sample roaster in 2017. It is still small on purpose: small enough that the person who roasts your coffee also answers your email.
Same farms, every year
Four of our six coffees come from producers we have bought from for three harvests or more. Long relationships mean better lots and fairer prices.
Price paid, published
Every coffee page lists the producer. Ask and we will tell you what we paid per kilo, and how that compares with the local market price.
Nothing older than a week
We roast to order. If a bag has not shipped within seven days of its roast date, it goes to the café, not to you.
Nine years in Sheffield
From a market stall to eleven cafés, without ever buying a second roaster.
-
2017
A 1 kg sample roaster in a garage in Walkley, selling at the Saturday market on Division Street.
-
2019
Moved into Arch 14 and bought the 12 kg drum second-hand from a roaster in Leeds.
-
2021
Opened the café at the front of the arch, and started supplying our first three cafés.
-
2026
Eleven cafés, roughly 900 subscribers, and still two roast days a week.
When can I visit?
The café is at the front of the arch — espresso, filter from whichever coffee landed last, and every bag on the shelf to take home.
